standard support group workshop

This workshop is designed for both new as well as experienced support group leaders.  We will cover everything you need to know to find appropriate students, set up and run the groups.  In short, when this workshop is over, you'll be ready to run a group!  Included in the materials packet are lesson plans for each session of group, as well as a very comprehensive manual.

Here's some of what we will cover:

Create an understanding of issues presented by at-risk students

Develop beginning group leadership skills

Clarify differences between educationally based support groups and therapy groups

bullet

Help participants assess their appropriateness as support group leaders

bullet

Provide group facilitation practice opportunities for participants

bullet

Outline techniques for finding and screening appropriate students for support groups

bullet

Detail lesson plans and activities for each session of group

bullet

Describe a model for building a support group program which complements comprehensive student assistance programs.
