survey content

While we could write lengthy  research papers (we have, actually) about how our tool works and what it measures, here's a brief outline of what the two Bully Survey tools investigate:

The student survey

For starters, you'll know doubt want to know how big of a problem bullying is in your building.  We measure that, certainly, but then we also investigate who's doing the bullying, where it happens, and how victims respond when they get bullied.  We provide insight into the complicated aspects of gender and ethnicity.  For example, are your students in a minority ethnic group more often the targets of bullying?  We  ask students if they are troubled by the bullying problem and take a critical look at how students perceive adults responding to this issue.

The staff survey

In order to get a true picture of the bullying and other aspects of the emotional climate in your school building, you must survey staff as well as students.  Bottom line, this tool measures how consistently staff confront bullying behavior and what they do about it.  As you know, teachers have their own beliefs and discipline strategies.  With an understanding of staff response styles, you can design faculty workshop content, a tweak of discipline procedures or a more effective bullying and harassment policy.  With the survey tool, you will be able to measure both how consistently staff intervene,  and the effectiveness of  their interventions.
