What to say to a parent when their kid is on drugs
Apr 17 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

No doubt we’ve all had the experience of having a student’s parent come into our office saying “I just found a bag of marijuana under my kid’s bed!”  And then they turn to us and ask what they should do.  Tough question.  And no one-size-fits-all answer, to be sure, but we can offer you some really useful guidelines for the parent to follow that will help everybody involved.  These practical suggestions stem from 20 years of working with teens on the drug scene–creating lots of stories with happy endings.  We will demonstrate how to use them, and also deliver them to you after the TeleClass in a set of handouts with worksheets that you can make copies of to give to parents.

Reaching the un-motivated student
May 30 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

“He just doesn’t do anything in class.”  “She’s bored all the time!”  “He’s late for class 3 times a week.”  Most likely, these are common, but not welcomed, referrals.  It’s hard to be successful with students who just don’t’ seem to care at all about school.  There usually is a start button on these kids…if you know where to look!  We’ll cover a number of different practical strategies for reaching the student with no motivation, and you’ll be welcoming these kids with an open door.

Kids and the latest drugs: what they are and how they work
Jun 14 @ 8:00 am – 9:00 am

Perhaps you think you’re hip; maybe you know you’re not.  It is difficult to keep up with teens and mood-altering substance use and, do you know what?  They prefer it that way!  Abused over-the-counter medications, K2 (if you don’t know what that is…take this class!), and all the other latest ways to get high will be identified and discussed.  We may never be hip, but at least we can know what we are talking about and what kids are up to these days.
