What to say to a parent when their kid is on drugs
Apr 17 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

No doubt we’ve all had the experience of having a student’s parent come into our office saying “I just found a bag of marijuana under my kid’s bed!”  And then they turn to us and ask what they should do.  Tough question.  And no one-size-fits-all answer, to be sure, but we can offer you some really useful guidelines for the parent to follow that will help everybody involved.  These practical suggestions stem from 20 years of working with teens on the drug scene–creating lots of stories with happy endings.  We will demonstrate how to use them, and also deliver them to you after the TeleClass in a set of handouts with worksheets that you can make copies of to give to parents.

May 29 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

So now you know the ingredients for quality school climate and you’ve  seen the data that points the way.  But how do you get your school there?  To be blunt: what do you do when you get it…and they don’t?  In this TeleClass we outline the activities, strategies and interventions to use in your school building to build a united front when it comes to building-wide expectations and get staff working as a cohesive team for holding students accountable for their behavior.  We will give you a number of staff development activities and demonstrate how to use them.  At the conclusion of the class, you will receive copies of all described activities, and a set of Power Points that you are free to use in your building and in your work.

In order to get the most out of this TeleClass, we ask that you take part one first, which is a free Teleclass.

Kids and the latest drugs: what they are and how they work
Jun 14 @ 8:00 am – 9:00 am

Perhaps you think you’re hip; maybe you know you’re not.  It is difficult to keep up with teens and mood-altering substance use and, do you know what?  They prefer it that way!  Abused over-the-counter medications, K2 (if you don’t know what that is…take this class!), and all the other latest ways to get high will be identified and discussed.  We may never be hip, but at least we can know what we are talking about and what kids are up to these days.
